Introducing the 2025 Full-Bodied Writing Retreat -- Wordplay!

“At that instant when language seems to match experience, some rift is healed.” –Mark Doty, The Art of Description: World into Word

This year’s Full-Bodied Writing Retreat focuses on the foundations of craft: the words, sentences, and paragraphs that make up your stories. Experience the language of movement, the physicality of dialog, and deeper levels of attention through dance, the actor’s art, and unlocking the wisdom of your body.

Our presenters include

  • Dancer and author Helen Landalf, who will help us explore words on a physical level by creating movement sequences based on our own writing,
  • Creativity Advocate and author Joni Sensel (new to us this year!), who will use Interplay principles to help us express character emotions more originally.
  • Actor and author Katherine Grace Bond (me!), who will help us explore character secrets by taking dialog from the stage to the page.

Here's what some of our writers had to say about our 2024 retreat:

"So much was valuable to me. All the tools shared in the three craft sessions were amazing. Being in this beautiful setting with a welcoming community of other writers made me feel very comfortable and inspired!!" --Marjorie Nye

"[Massage was] wonderful. Not only her massage, but attitude, voice, etc. Professional, but not aloof." --Anonymous participant

"Took a short walk up on a trail through the forest--that was great. Grounds and views are so beautiful!" --Brian Bek

The 2025 retreat will be held Friday-Sunday, June 20-22.

These dates are now firm. We currently have 13 spots remaining, and we'd love to have you in one of them!

The earlybird discount code, good for $50 off through December 31, is FBW25EarlyBird.

We have also added a referral discount. Bring a friend who has never been to the Full-Bodied Writing Retreat, and receive $25 off for both you and the friend. That code is simply REFERRAL. You can get the discount retroactively if you refer a friend later, either as a $25 refund or to apply to 2026.

Hey all! Here's something I spent the spring working on with a small, dedicated group of writers, who helped me get it ready for you! It was so lovely to be back in that weekly group energy and hearing people's wonderful stories. Now our new, limited-enrollment coaching groups begin in mid-July. Won't you join us? Here's the skinny:You don’t need to write alone.Your story matters—but when you’re in the thick of it, it’s easy to lose your way. What seemed clear at first starts to blur. The...

Hello all! I wanted to let you know about a really fun opportunity, which my friend, editor Lynn Post, is hosting. The Mid-Summer Writes Dream retreat will be held at a unique, idyllic property on Vashon Island that offers the best of both worlds: outdoor camping in a quiet, peaceful setting completely immersed in nature, with access to the basic comforts of home (flushing toilets, showers, electricity, wifi, and a full kitchen)! This glamping-style retreat was intentionally designed to be...

Someone told me recently that he felt "more himself" when he wrote. And I thought, "Yes!" We write to let loose the stories clamoring around in our heads, to crystalize thoughts and emotions, to give form to something ethereal. And the work transforms us. This is the way we heal: We become solidly, authentically ourselves. We give form to what is within us. And we take that light and our transformed selves to the world. This is not a luxury. It is not a thing to set aside until we have "spare...
