We're Taking an Unusual Approach to Setting This Year

Hi Reader,

Yesterday the faculty met to finalize the Full-Bodied Writing Retreat, and I left more excited than ever.

We aren't going to talk about setting as background scenery. We're going to step into it physically. We're going to build it, inhabit it, film it, and write from inside it.

Because when you actually step into your setting, it changes your writing. Place stops being description and becomes experience. Your work becomes a world readers can enter and inhabit alongside your characters.

This is the ninth year of the retreat. We're always innovative, but we're also a haven for creativity.

Many of us are depleted in this time of crisis and responsibility. We need creative sparks, and we also need deep rest.

That's one reason I love this retreat. It isn't only about craft. It's about making room for creativity to breathe again.

There is immersive writing time, thoughtful conversation, a chance to ramble in the woods, walk the labyrinth, or have a glass of wine as the sun sets. You even receive a massage from our licensed massage therapist.

And talk about setting! Sacred Waters Retreat Center sits on wooded acreage with a sweeping view of mountains and water. Saint Andrew's Lodge is cozy and welcoming, with handmade quilts on every bed and an outdoor fireplace where we can gather in the evening.

Are you needing this? I sure am.

Registration closes June 12 so we can give our final count to the kitchen. If you've been considering the Full-Bodied Writing Retreat, now is the time to decide.

Come find your place.

Love,

Katherine

P.S. Faculty presenter Joni Sensel is offering a free webinar on Wednesday, June 10: "Liminality: How 'In-Betweenness' Can Supercharge Your Settings." I'd love to see you there.

P.P.S. This month's Labyrinth Craft Workshop is "Who Do You Think You Are? Writing through Doubt, Discouragement and Fraud Syndrome." Join us live on Monday, June 8, or watch the recording later. Labyrinth members attend free.

Did I mention I was hacked? Yup. Last month. I got two texts from a fake Meta business account at 3:43 AM telling me “We think that someone may have accessed your Facebook account, so we’ve locked it to protect you.” At the same time, I got several emails purportedly from Facebook saying “We’re here to help.” An hour later I got an email telling me “Your Facebook account has been permanently disabled.” All while I slept. I think the last one was, legit, from Meta, because my account has,...

Hi all, I did two ER visits with Mom in the last couple of days—one at 2:00 in the afternoon and the next at 2:00 in the morning. (She had nosebleeds that wouldn't stop.) Though it was frightening for her, she's okay now—back in her assisted living apartment, recovering and getting good care. I'm writing this to you while attempting to be coherent. A day retreat is sounding pretty good right now. The cabana where I live sits right on a small lake, and it's one of my favorite places in the...
